It’s not all Kobe vs. LeBron

Kobe Bryant doesn’t care anymore.

Oh, he cares about the Lakers, but not about the often over-hyped matchups with marquee players on other teams.

The Lakers play host to the Cleveland Cavaliers today, which means a lot of Kobe-vs.-LeBron James material, even though they rarely guard each other.

“I don’t care about that stuff, man,” Bryant said, laughing. “You know how many of those mano-a-mano battles I’ve seen? That’s nothing to me.”

The Lakers haven’t shown much in their last four games against the Cavaliers -- all losses, including a deflating 94-90 setback last month after scoring only 12 points in the fourth quarter.

James had 33 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for the Cavaliers that day, and Bryant was held to 21 points on eight-for-22 shooting after being bothered by a strained groin muscle.

James is averaging a league-best 29.6 points, along with 7.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists a game.

“He’s playing well,” Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said.

There was one other culprit in the Lakers’ losses to San Antonio and Dallas, in addition to the ineffective third quarters and slim-to-none contributions from the frontcourt.

The Lakers averaged 19 turnovers in the two losses, and were hit by some ill-timed ones that killed a late rally against Dallas.

“That was a big part of the game,” Jackson said.

One turnover that stood out was Jordan Farmar’s fastbreak lob that was slightly too high for DJ Mbenga and sailed out of bounds.

“We did a good job battling back, but we made some mistakes that young teams make,” Bryant said. “Those are just correctable things.”

Jackson has poked and prodded the Clippers in the past, but he didn’t find the recent turmoil on their team to be a laughing matter.

“We really root for the Clippers, to promote basketball in our own town and competition between the two teams,” he said. “I think all those things will blow over.”

Forward Vladimir Radmanovic practiced Saturday and will suit up for today’s game after sitting out 11 games because of a sprained right ankle. He is averaging 7.4 points and 2.7 rebounds.
