Super-featherweights Vasyl Lomachenko and Nicholas Walters have a date (Nov. 26)

Vasyl Lomachenko previously had to tempt Nicholas Walters with a substantial cut of his purse to take a fight with the gifted two-time Olympic boxing champion from Ukraine.

No longer.

Jamaica’s Walters (26-0-1, 21 knockouts) has accepted an offer to fight World Boxing Organization super-featherweight champion Lomachenko (6-1, four KOs) Nov. 26, with the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas positioned to host the HBO-televised bout.

Lomachenko promoter Bob Arum said Tuesday that Walters has agreed to be the opponent, and that Arum expected to finalize the site deal and formally announce the bout Wednesday.

In June, Lomachenko produced a sensational fifth-round knockout of Puerto Rico’s Roman “Rocky” Martinez at Madison Square Garden’s Theater to become the first fighter in history to win a second belt in just seven pro bouts.

Egis Klimas, Lomachenko’s manager, said there was no need to offer a further enticement to Walters, who is coming off a draw to Jason Sosa in his most recent bout in December.

Before that bout, Walters declined to accept a purse offer, prompting Lomachenko to tell Walters he could have $300,000 of Lomachenko’s purse if Walters won. That still wasn’t a deal-maker.

This time, Lomachenko also had the leverage to choose Panama’s 25-year-old World Boxing Assn. super-featherweight champion Jezreel Corrales as his opponent.

Walters and Lomachenko are expected to throw heavy punches in the bout, considering that Walters scored technical knockouts of former multi-division champions Vic Darchinyan and Nonito Donaire in 2014, and that Lomachenko, 28, was so impressive in his disposal of Martinez.
