Farhan Zaidi was officially named the Dodgers general manager Thursday. Zaidi, a former assistant general manager of the Oakland Athletics, will be introduced Friday at a news conference at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers also announced they hired Josh Byrnes as a senior vice president of baseball operations. Byrnes, 44, is a former general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres.

Zaidi and Byrnes will work under Andrew Friedman, the president of baseball operations.

Zaidi’s primary focus will be on the major league team and player acquisitions, while Byrnes will oversee scouting and player development, Friedman said in a statement.

“However, they will both work closely with me on all aspects of baseball operations in our efforts to make the Dodgers’ front office and team the best it can possibly be,” Friedman said.
