Bort Escoto, the always combative Sylmar coach, was not pleased with his No. 9 seeding in the City Section Division I playoffs. Now that his team has advanced to the semifinals, he's even more vocal.
"If I win the Division I title, I want the seeding committee replaced because they got all the seeds wrong," he said.
On Friday night, Sylmar eliminated the No. 1 seed, Palisades, 90-87, in overtime. Dayquann Williams scored 27 points and Tyler Hooks 25. Morgan Wadlow contributed a key 10 points in the second quarter, helping the Spartans rally from a 31-16 deficit.
They will play Washington, a 53-50 win over University, in Friday's 8 p.m. semifinal at Roybal. Tramel Wilson had 19 points for Washington. Poly advanced to the other semifinal at 6 p.m. with a 50-49 win over Verdugo Hills. Francisco Mariscal had 19 points and Cesar Reyes 18. The Parrots will play Granada Hills, a 62-55 winner over Garfield.
