Football: Bellevue, top program in Washington, banned from postseason for four years

One of the most successful football teams in the state of Washington, Bellevue, has been banned from postseason play for four years by the KingCo Conference following an investigation that uncovered numerous rule violations.

They include banning Bellevue from playing out of state opponents from 2016 through 2019. Crenshaw was scheduled to play at Bellevue this fall. Crenshaw Coach Robert Garrett said he will begin looking for a replacement game on Sept. 9.

Bellevue is also prohibited from accepting any outside donations for four years.

Bellevue is the school that ended the nation’s longest winning streak of 151 consecutive victories by Concord De La Salle in 2004.

It remains to be seen what kind of appeals can be made regarding the sanctions.

“This begins the discussion of the penalty phase of the violations, and there are several steps working through that process,” Mike Colbrese, executive director of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), told the Seattle Times.
