Football: It’s San Pedro’s time to mess up the Marine League

Share

San Pedro (8-1, 3-1) has a chance to really cause confusion in the Marine League and for the City Section Division I playoff seedings if it can knock off Carson (7-2, 4-0) on Friday night at San Pedro.

As it stands, Carson can win the league title outright with a victory. A loss and it will likely be a three-way tie for first place among the Colts, Pirates and Narbonne (5-4, 3-1). Then the seeding committee will have to make its own decision where to seed teams based on strength of schedule, head to head and using MaxpPreps.com rankings.

Can San Pedro really defeat Carson? Absolutely.

The Pirates are particularly tough to beat at home, and Coach Mike Walsh may have a few surprises awaiting Carson.

The team that runs the ball best will win. San Pedro has Chris Alvidrez, who has gained 947 yards rushing and scored 17 touchdowns.

Carson has a variety of weapons, including sophomore Adrean Hooper, who has gained 573 yards rushing. But the player San Pedro has to worry most about is Jabari Minix, who has nine touchdowns rushing and nine touchdowns receiving. He better be a marked man if the Pirates expect to win.
