Thousand Oaks football player Griffen Kramer dies

Griffen Kramer, a backup quarterback at Thousand Oaks High, was found dead Sunday at a friend’s house in Agoura Hills, school officials said Monday. Kramer was 18.

Kramer is the son of former NFL quarterback Erik Kramer, who played at Burbank Burroughs High and Pierce College, and started for the Chicago Bears from 1994-96.

In a statement, the school, with information it said was provided by the family, announced that “initial indications suggest his passing was due to alcohol poisoning.”

The Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department said in a statement that it did not “suspect any criminal activity contributed or led to his death.”

Kramer, a senior, transferred to Thousand Oaks from Agoura before his junior year.

Counselors and administrative teams were made available to students Monday.

“It’s a tough time right now,” Coach Mike Leibin said. “We met this morning with players, and kids have been in and out of my office all day.”

Thousand Oaks Principal Lou Lichtl said, “We had a tremendous response from adults and students supporting each other.”
