Wedge is fired as Cleveland manager
The Cleveland Indians fired manager Eric Wedge on Wednesday, but he will be at the helm of the team until the end of the season.
Wedge guided the Indians to one playoff appearance in seven seasons. The Indians are 65-93 and half a game out of last place in the American League Central.
General Manager Mark Shapiro said that Cleveland’s coaches were told that they would not be retained for next season. Wedge’s contract runs through 2010.
