Sebastian Janikowski agrees to record deal for kicker

Sebastian Janikowski and the Oakland Raiders agreed on a $16-million, four-year deal Tuesday that is the richest contract for a kicker in NFL history, the team said.

Janikowski, 31, will be guaranteed $9 million in the deal, a person familiar with the contract said on condition of anonymity because the team did not announce terms.

Janikowski was eligible to be an unrestricted free agent if the Raiders did not sign him to a contract or place the transition or franchise tag on him by Feb. 25.

Guerrero vacates title

Two-time world champion Robert Guerrero will vacate his International Boxing Federation super-featherweight title to care for his wife, who is battling leukemia.

Casey Guerrero was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and is receiving a bone-marrow transplant as well as chemotherapy. It will be at least two weeks before doctors will know whether the treatment has stopped the cancer’s spread.

Yuri Foreman (28-0, eight knockouts) will defend his World Boxing Assn. junior-middleweight title against former welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (32-4, 27 KOs) of Puerto Rico in June at one of two historic New York venues.

The bout is scheduled for June 12 -- the eve of Puerto Rican Day in New York -- at Madison Square Garden. But promoter Bob Arum is looking into the possibility of moving the fight to Yankee Stadium.

Riverside heavyweight contender Cris Arreola will return to the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario on April 24 against former cruiserweight world champion Tomasz Adamek, Arreola’s promoter, Dan Goossen, told The Times.

Arreola (28-1, 25 KOs) lost a heavyweight title shot in September against Vitali Klitschko, but he rebounded with a fourth-round TKO of Brian Minto in December.

Wang to pitch for Nationals

Pitcher Chien-Ming Wang and the Washington Nationals have reached an agreement on a $2-million, one-year contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press. Wang, 30, pitched five seasons for the New York Yankees.

Sutton enters not guilty plea

The attorney for former Oklahoma State men’s basketball coach Sean Sutton entered a not guilty plea to four felony drug-related charges and said his client is in a treatment center.

The attorney, Trace Morgan, explained the reason for Sutton’s absence at the arraignment to Payne County Special Judge Michael Stano, who set an April 5 hearing date.

Sutton, 41, was arrested Thursday after agents from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs said he picked up a shipment of painkillers under another person’s name.

Kirk, former Memphis coach

Dana Kirk, who coached the Memphis State Tigers to a 1985 Final Four appearance that was vacated because of NCAA violations, died Monday. He was 74.

Kirk was fired after the 1986 season, just before he was indicted on income tax evasion. He served four months in a federal minimum-security prison in Montgomery, Ala.
