Report: Vikings owner tells Bill Parcells to name his price [Poll]

Bill Parcells has suddenly become a hot commodity again in the NFL.

In an off-season that has already featured more than its share of unexpected twists, here’s yet another one: Vikings owner Zygi Wilf is going hard after the 70-year-old former coach and executive to “run the show” in Minnesota, according to the New York Post.

Parcells, whose last NFL job as executive vice president of football operations with the Miami Dolphins ended midseason in 2010, has been rumored to be a candidate for the New Orleans Saints’ interim coaching job if his close friend Sean Payton’s one-year suspension is upheld.

Apparently once word got out that Parcells may be considering another comeback, at least one other team started getting ideas of its own. According to an unnamed source quoted by the Post, Parcells revealed at a dinner with close friends in Florida that Wilf had to told him to “name his price” to coach the Vikings as well as run the team’s football operations.

But Parcells also told his friends at the dinner that he was concerned that the game of football had “passed me by,” the report said. Parcells won two Super Bowls as coach of the New York Giants, took the New England Patriots to another and also coached the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys.

The Vikings went 3-13 last season under second-year Coach Leslie Frazier, who went 3-3 the previous season after taking over for the fired Brad Childress. The offer for Parcells to “run the show” seems particularly odd since the team just named former vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman general manager back in January.
