USC falls from the Times’ Super 16 college football rankings

The University of Southern Chickens lucked out when Georgia Coach Mark Richt opted not to hand the ball off to star tailback Todd Gurley inside the Gamecocks’ five-yard line. That’s like opting not to hand off the microphone to Frank Sinatra for “New York, New York.”

Boston College Coach Steve Addazio said his team simply “out-desired” the University of Sweltering California. Rankman thinks the Trojans may have been spooked by strange, wet stuff falling out of the sky.

Brigham Young makes a big rise this week and Oklahoma jumps Alabama after we determined the Sooners were, for now, better than any team in the Southeastern Conference East after the Sooners defeated Tennessee.

Alabama doesn’t play Tennessee until Oct. 25. Florida State’s No. 2 ranking has been suspended for one week after the school suspended Heisman-winning quarterback Jameis Winston for one half against Clemson.
