No Steve Nash soccer event in Los Angeles, New York match late June

The Steve Nash Foundation Showdown makes a return to New York on June 25, but the Lakers’ veteran point guard won’t be holding the Los Angeles version of his charity soccer match.

Last July, Nash was joined by NBA and soccer players (including Jared Dudley, Jeremy Lin, Klay Thompson, Carlo Cudicini, Robbie Rogers and Kyle Martino) at the Red Shield Community Center to raise money to help provide for underserved children in health, personal development, education and enjoyment of life through the Steve Nash Foundation.

The New York version of the event last June included Joakim Noah, Baron Davis and Marco Belinelli.

Nash is offering fans a chance to win a trip to New York, along with the chance to spend time with the former two-time NBA MVP before the match, through a donation via Prizeo.com.

After two injury-plagued seasons with the Lakers, Nash recently told The Times that he’s “feeling good.”

The bigger issue for Nash, who suffers from a nerve root irritation that impacts his hamstring, knee and back, is staying healthy over a sustained period of time. Nash is one of just five Lakers under contract for next season — including Nick Young who is expected to opt out of his deal before July.
