Yasiel Puig scratched from Dodgers lineup again

Yasiel Puig was scratched from the Dodgers lineup for the second consecutive game on Thursday, as he continued to be bothered by a ruptured callus on his left hand.

The callus initially tore Monday in the series opener against the Chicago Cubs, exposing a quarter-sized patch of raw skin. Puig played the remainder of that game, as well as the game on Tuesday, with his left hand heavily bandaged.

While Puig was taking batting practice Wednesday, the callus ruptured again.

Puig was originally scheduled to start in right field and bat fifth for the Dodgers on Thursday. He was removed from the lineup after attempting to hit in the batting cages at Wrigley Field.

“It’s just a pain-tolerance thing,” Manager Don Mattingly said.

Mattingly said calluses are common in baseball.

“Pretty much everyone has them,” Mattingly said. “You just have to deal with it.”

With Puig unavailable, Mattingly reshuffled his lineup.

Alex Guerrero, who was initially scheduled to start at third base, was moved to left field. Scott Van Slyke moved from left field to right. Alberto Callaspo replaced Guerrero at third base.
