Albert Pujols, C.J. Wilson in Angels lineup; Bobby Abreu sits out

Both of the Angels’ big-ticket winter items will be in the lineup at Phoenix Municipal Stadium on Monday when the Angels open Cactus League play against the Oakland Athletics at noon PST.

Albert Pujols, who signed a 10-year, $240-million deal, will start at first base and bat third, and left-handerC.J. Wilson, who signed a five-year, $77.5-million deal, will be on the mound for a scheduled two-inning start.

Bobby Abreu, who asked Manager Mike Scioscia to play five or six games a week in hopes of showing the Angels he was worthy of a full-time role or showcasing himself for a trade, was in the lineup as the designated hitter. But the veteran outfielder went home sick and was scratched.

But there are still plenty of regulars in the lineup, including Howie Kendrick, Torii Hunter and Vernon Wells. Manny Ramirez will start at designated hitter for the A’s and bat cleanup.

In what was largely a procedural move, the Angels on Sunday outrighted Ysmael Carmona to minor league camp after the right-hander cleared waivers.

Carmona was removed from the team’s 40-man roster, which now stands at 39. That will allow the Angels to add a nonroster player such as reliever Jason Isringhausen, infielder Jorge Cantu or outfielder Ryan Langerhans to the 40-man roster if one of them makes the team.

The Angels’ lineup Monday: SS Erick Ayber, 2B Howie Kendrick, 1B Albert Pujols, RF Torii Hunter, LF Vernon Wells, 3B Alberto Callaspo, C Chris Iannetta, CF Peter Bourjos, DH Hank Conger, P C.J. Wilson.

The A’s lineup: 2B Weeks, SS Pennington, CF Crisp, DH Ramirez, 3B Donaldson, C Suzuki, 1B Ka’ahue, RF Taylor, LF Pridie, P Peacock.
