Three men arrested for allegedly attacking NASCAR veteran Mike Wallace

Longtime NASCAR driver Mike Wallace and his adult daughter were assaulted at a Rascal Flatts concert in North Carolina on Friday, Charlotte police have confirmed to USA Today.

Wallace said his injuries included three front teeth being knocked a few inches into his mouth, a black eye and a cut on his lip that required 10 stitches.

“They just knocked me out,” Wallace told Charlotte’s WBTV in a phone interview on Sunday. “When I come to, my daughter is laying on the ground, my son-in-law were on top of me trying to protect me. They were kicking me, beating on me.”

The 57-year-old Wallace also wrote an account of the incident on Facebook, saying his attackers “appeared to be drunk or drugged up.”

Three men have been arrested, according to police. Paul Lucas, 29, and Nathan Lucas, 22, are charged with simple assault, while Randolph Mangum, 24, is charged with assault on a female.

Wallace said he had never met any of the men who allegedly attacked him.

“Mike was talking to one of the three men and then, out of nowhere, one came after Mike like a crazy man,” brother Kenny Wallace, also a retried NASCAR driver, told USA Today on Sunday. “Mike was knocked out completely cold. While he was on the ground they continued to beat on him, kicking him in the face.”

Kenny Wallace was not present at the time of the attack but says he received texts from his brother after the incident and has also spoken with family members who witnessed the events. He said he had no idea what the confrontation was about.

Lindsey Wallace Van Wingerden jumped on top of her father in order to protect him, Kenny Wallace said, and wound up with minor injuries. She and her father were treated at an area hospital and then released, according to Kenny Wallace.

“That hurts me worse than I got myself hurt, realizing [Lindsey] was trying to help me, and a group of people attacked her,” said Mike Wallace, who has not competed in a NASCAR event this season.
