Angels sign Frank Herrmann, Zach Stewart to minor league deals

The Angels have signed right-handers Frank Herrmann and Zach Stewart to minor league contracts, with Herrmann’s deal including an invitation to major league spring-training camp.

Herrmann, 30, went 4-1 with a 4.26 earned run average in 95 appearances with the Cleveland Indians from 2010 to 2012 but missed all of 2013 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He had a 6.37 ERA in 42 appearances for triple-A Columbus in 2014.

Stewart, 28, has a 3-10 record and 6.82 ERA in 33 major league games, 14 of them starts, for the Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox from 2011 to 2012, striking out 64 and walking 22 in 103 innings. He spent most of 2014 with Atlanta’s triple-A Gwinnett team, going 7-4 with a 4.58 ERA.
