It was a nice family scene shortly before the start of the Kings-Bruins game.

The Kings were honoring Coach Darryl Sutter for having coached his 1,000th regular-season game.

That, in fact, happened on Saturday night but the Kings had a ceremony on Thursday for Sutter; his wife, Wanda; and son, Christopher. On hand were Kings executives Luc Robitaille and Dean Lombardi.

They presented Sutter with cowboy boots and a trip for his family to an exclusive resort in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“I thought I was going to get a tractor,” Sutter said after the Kings’ 4-2 win over Boston.

Maybe it’s been the recent presence of a TV crew tracking the Kings behind the scenes in preparation for the upcoming game at Dodger Stadium between the Kings and the Ducks. But Sutter has been coming up with grade-A material of late.

When Sutter was teased earlier in the week if the crew would be invited to his house, Sutter paused and then said, “It’s 40 below there.”

Of course, that was probably including wind chill in Viking, Canada.
