Ndamukong Suh has not lived up to the six-year, $114-million contract he signed with the Miami Dolphins during the off-season -- at least he hasn’t so far, recording just two tackles with one assist and no sacks during the first two games of the season.

The Miami Herald may have figured out what’s going on with the four-time Pro Bowler. The newspaper reports that Suh has been causing confusion within the Dolphins’ defense by freelancing on the field rather than sticking to the defensive plays called by coordinator Kevin Coyle.

Taken by themselves, Suh’s stats so far this season wouldn’t be all that big of a deal. He started the 2013 season with three tackles and no assists in the first two games but ended up going to the Pro Bowl that year with 36 tackles and 12 assists.

He’s also had no sacks after Week 2 in the last two seasons, but finished with 5.5 in 2013 and 8.5 in 2014.

But the Herald report may make Dolphins fans a tad nervous -- as if they didn’t have enough to worry about after their team’s 23-20 loss to lowly Jacksonville on Sunday. In the article, Suh seems to suggest that the defensive-play calling could be behind his slow start with his new team.

“I couldn’t tell you,” Suh said, when asked to explain his uninspired play. “At the end of the day, we have to go back to the drawing board and figure out what we want to run so guys can make plays and go from there.”

Update: Dolphins Coach Joe Philbin denies Suh has been freelancing.
