Ubaldo Jimenez won’t apologize for drilling Troy Tulowitzki

Ubaldo Jimenez doesn’t think he owes Troy Tulowitzki an apology and feels he does not deserve to be suspended either.

And apparently doesn’t think much of his own pitching abilities either. That’s basically what he said -- “I can’t get the ball to go where I want every time” -- when trying to explain why he should not be suspended for drilling his former Colorado teammate on the elbow during the first inning of a spring-training game Sunday.

“I shouldn’t be suspended,” Jimenez said Monday. “Players are hit by pitches every day. With a guy like him, you have to go inside. I can’t get the ball to go where I want every time.”

X-rays on Tulowitzki came back negative.

Jimenez said he would not reach out to Tulowitzki following the incident, which cleared both benches though no punches were thrown.

“I already said I didn’t want to hit him,” said Jimenez, who was traded from the Rockies in July. “I had five walks. It’s not the first time somebody [was] hit.”

Major League Baseball told the Associated Press later Monday that it is reviewing the matter.
