Soma Vainuku has become a special-teams standout for USC.

The sophomore fullback blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown in Saturday’s 62-28 victory over California.

Vainuku blocked a kick by Cole Leininger in the second quarter. The ball shot high into the air and USC’s Josh Shaw returned it 14 yards for a touchdown.

It was the second blocked kick this season for Vainuku.

Vainuku also caught a pass for 15 yards and helped Trojans tailbacks Javorius Allen, Silas Redd and Ty Isaac rush for a combined 241 yards.
