USC football: Kicker job open for competition, Ed Orgeron announces
With placekicker Andre Heidari struggling, USC interim Coach Ed Orgeron announced Monday that there would be a competition for his position this week.
USC plays Utah on Saturday at the Coliseum.
Heidari has made six of 11 field goal attempts. The junior kicked a 22-yard field goal in USC’s 14-10 loss to Notre Dame last Saturday, but missed attempts from 40 and 46 yards.
Heidari made 15 of 17 field goal attempts as a freshman, 10 of 16 as a sophomore.
Orgeron said Sunday that he had an “extensive meeting” with special teams coach John Baxter and that Heidari was experiencing “a technical problem.”
Sophomore walk-on Alex Wood kicked eight extra points last season but did not attempt a field goal.
Junior walk-on Craig McMahon also is a kicker.
