Every Tuesday we will feature a USC recruiting update.

USC had an open date on Saturday, which gave coaches the opportunity to recruit.

USC has 16 commits in its 2015 recruiting class, including three who have signed financial-aid agreements. There are 24 available scholarships.

Coaches recruited for the 2015 and 2016 classes.

Here’s a look at where coaches traveled during the bye week:

  • Coach Steve Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox stayed in the Southland on Friday night. They watched Orange Lutheran defeat Long Beach Cabrillo at Orange Coast College. Lutheran features defensive end Keisean Lucier-South, a top national recruit. Sarkisian and Wilcox also made it to the Inland Empire to see Corona Centennial’s victory over Long Beach Poly. Poly features defensive back Iman Marshall, who is also being recruited nationally.
  • Linebackers coach Peter Sirmon and tight ends coach Marques Tuiasosopo were in Utah on Friday to watch two games featuring top linebacker targets. Their first stop was at Heber City Wasatch to see Salem Hills’ linebacker Porter Gustin. They also watched Salt Lake City Brighton linebacker Osa Masina. It was a big night for Masina, who was crowned Homecoming royalty during halftime.
  • Offensive line coach Tim Drevno checked out two games featuring USC commits. He watched center Cole Smith at Mission Viejo before going to Cerritos College to watch Anaheim Servite offensive tackle Clayton Johnston. USC is also recruiting Johnston’s teammate, receiver Equanimeous St. Brown.
  • Defensive line coach Chris Wilson was one of five assistants who missed Thursday’s practice to recruit. Wilson was in the Dallas area on Thursday. He spent Friday night in Phoenix watching Henderson (Nev.) Liberty defensive lineman commit Noah Jefferson play against Chandler Hamilton.
  • Quarterbacks coach Clay Helton was in Louisiana on Thursday to watch 2016 quarterback Shea Patterson of Shreveport Calvary Academy. Helton was back in the Southland on Friday to see quarterback commit Sam Darnold of San Clemente play against Atascadero.
  • Defensive backs coach Keith Heyward was also recruiting in Louisiana on Thursday. Heyward went to the Bay Area on Friday to watch cornerback commit Isaiah Langley of Pleasanton Foothill.
  • Receivers coach Tee Martin was in the greater Atlanta area on Thursday. Martin was in Tennessee at Knoxville Catholic on Friday, where his son, Amari Rodgers, is a sophomore running back.
  • Running backs coach Johnny Nansen was in Hawaii on Thursday and stopped by Honolulu Punahou, where top defensive line recruit Canton Kaumatule plays. Nansen was in Las Vegas on Friday to watch Santa Margarita at Bishop Gorman. Bishop Gorman features receiver Cordell Broadus and tight end Alize Jones.
