U.S. fast-food giant McDonald’s Corp. lost an eight-year fight to stop McCurry restaurant in Malaysia from using the “Mc” prefix in a precedent-setting judgment by Malaysia’s highest court.

The court ruled that McDonald’s cannot appeal another court’s verdict that lets McCurry use “Mc” in its name. McCurry’s owner says the name is an abbreviation of Malaysian Chicken Curry.

The ruling ends all legal avenues for McDonald’s to protect its name from what it said was a trademark infringement.
