Bus, light-rail collisions in San Francisco leave 40 injured

Forty people were injured Friday afternoon in two separate mass transit collisions in San Francisco, authorities said. None of the injuries were life-threatening. The first crash occurred in Japantown about 1:30 p.m. on the westbound lanes of Geary Boulevard, one of the city's busiest east-west thoroughfares. The collision occurred when a San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency bus driver swerved and slammed on the brakes near Webster Street to avoid hitting a dump truck that had stopped suddenly.
