The lawyer for Clayton Lockett said the Oklahoma murderer's botched execution Tuesday night, which lasted about 40 minutes and ended when the condemned died of a heart attack, left him horrified.
Fifteen years ago Clayton Lockett committed a heinous crime. On Tuesday night, so did the state of Oklahoma, in practice if not in legal fact.
If the government insists on executing its citizens, it must do so in as transparent a way as possible.
