Appellate court upholds temporary pay-for-employees order

An Illinois appellate court ruled Friday that state employees should keep getting paid while they press a lawsuit prompted by the ongoing budget crisis. The Fifth District Appellate Court in Mount Vernon upheld a lower court's order that 64,500 government workers keep collecting their full salaries even though under state law, without a budget, there's no authority to spend money. "State employees will suffer irreparable harm" if they don't get paychecks, the court wrote. "No one knows when the budget impasse will end.
