New York Rep. Charles Rangel holds slim lead in Democratic primary

Longtime Rep. Charles B. Rangel of New York claimed victory in the Democratic primary Tuesday, but with absentee and other ballots still to be counted, state Sen. Adriano Espaillat refused to concede in the tight race.  With 100% of precincts reporting early Wednesday, Rangel led by 3.8 percentage points -- or 1,828 votes. There could be enough outstanding ballots to flip the result, however.  The 84-year-old Rangel, who was first elected to Congress in 1970, has said this will be his last term.
