Adriano’s Goals Power Brazil

Brazil defeated Germany, 3-2, Saturday to reach the FIFA Confederations Cup final behind two goals by Adriano and a penalty kick by Ronaldinho at Nuremberg, Germany.

The Brazilians will play for the title Wednesday in Frankfurt against the winner of today’s semifinal involving Argentina and Mexico in Hanover.

Saturday’s game was a rematch of the 2002 World Cup final won by Brazil, 2-0.

Adriano scored in the 21st and 76th minutes, and Ronaldinho converted the penalty kick in the 42nd after Robert Huth pushed Adriano.

Germany got goals from Lukas Podolski on a header in 23rd minute and Michael Ballack on a penalty kick in first-half injury time after being fouled.

Lionel Messi helped Argentina outlast Spain and advance to a showdown with Brazil, and Nigeria set up an all-African semifinal by beating the Netherlands in a marathon penalty shootout at the FIFA World Youth Championship in Kerkrade, Netherlands.

Messi scored a goal and set up another in Argentina’s 3-1 victory over Spain. Argentina will face defending champion Brazil on Tuesday.

After 24 rounds of penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie, Collins John missed the decisive kick for the hosts, and Taye Taiwo delivered the winner for Nigeria, which won, 10-9. Nigeria will face Morocco in the semifinals.

FC Dallas 3, Colorado 1 -- Bobby Rhine scored his first goal of the season in the 85th minute to break a tie and Dallas (10-2-3) beat the Rapids (4-9-2) at Denver. Abe Thompson scored in the 88th minute to put it away.
