Orion gets ready for its close-up

After its successful test flight in December, the Orion crew capsule is getting its heat shield stripped to ship off for more tests at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton. At NASA Langley, the heat shield will be attached to a test article — or a mockup of the Orion — to undergo even more water impact tests. It’s rigor like this that should make an even better heat shield when the capsule is launched back into space, eventually with a crew onboard.
