New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda put on a memorable performance during Sunday's 6-2 victory over the visiting Baltimore Orioles.
Pineda struck out a career-best 16 batters over seven innings, becoming only the fourth pitcher in Yankees history to achieve the feat. He struck out the side in the second and fifth innings and recorded at least two strikeouts in each of the innings he pitched. Pineda threw 81 strikes on 111 total pitches.
The 16-strikeout, single-game total ties him with David Cone and David Wells for second-most in Yankees history. Ron Guidry notched 18 strikeouts during a game for the Yankees in 1978.
