Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez, a 23-year-old Venezuelan in his third major league season, pitched the third no-hitter of the season in a thrilling 1-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday in Miami.
Alvarez was in the on-deck circle in the ninth inning when Tigers reliever Luke Putkonen threw a wild pitch to pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs with two outs and the bases loaded, allowing Giancarlo Stanton to score the game's only run.
