A.J. Ellis sprains ankle during no-hitter celebration, goes on DL

These major accomplishments can prove costly. Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis sprained his right ankle in the on-field celebration after Josh Beckett’s no-hitter Sunday in Philadelphia, stepping on, of all things, catcher Drew Butera’s mask. The Dodgers put Ellis on the 15-day disabled list before Monday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds and called up Tim Federowicz from triple-A Albuquerque. Ellis came off the DL May 14 after left knee surgery. He has four hits in 23 at-bats (.174) since returning. Federowicz was hitting .298 with the Isotopes.
