Kings trade Ben Scrivens to Oilers for third-round pick, recall Jones

The Kings on Wednesday traded backup goaltender Ben Scrivens to the Edmonton Oilers for a third-round pick in this year’s entry draft, loosening up their goaltending logjam. Martin Jones was recalled from the Kings’ Manchester (N.H.) affiliate and was scheduled to meet the team in St. Louis to serve as Jonathan Quick’s backup on the upcoming four-game trip. Scrivens, acquired by the Kings from Toronto last summer, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, and the Kings’ goaltending depth means he wasn’t part of their long-term plans.
