Gear: Signals keep your hands on the bike, eyes on the road

Share

Motor vehicles come with bright rear turn signals, but cyclists must rely on arm signals, which requires one-handed steering. Not safe.

Help has arrived from the engineers at Buztronics, thanks to an easily installed Signal Pod Wireless LED Bike Turn Signal system. A big, wide flashing signaling unit (called the pod) mounts to the bicycle’s rear seat post, behind the rider. A three-button wireless remote-control unit attaches to either side of the handlebars for easy access.

Push the remote’s left- or right-hand button and ultra-bright red LEDs arranged in a double arrow formation on the left or right side of the pod start flashing, communicating turning intentions.

A button between the remote’s two directional controls activates a triangular hazard light on the pod. Audible beeps accompany the visual indicators.

Both units are encased in water-resistant plastic housings. The remote includes a replaceable CR2032 battery.

The pod is powered by three AAA batteries, included, as is mounting hardware.

Info: The Signal Pod Wireless LED Bike Turn Signal costs $34.95
