Hilton Los Cabos resort reopens, 10 months after Hurricane Odile

The Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort on Mexico’s Baja Peninsula reopened to guests July 1, the first time the resort has seen guests since it was slammed by Hurricane Odile in September.

The resort located on the Sea of Cortez between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas underwent a multimillion-dollar fixup after being extensively damaged by the hurricane that struck Sept. 14.

In a statement, Hilton says the first phase of upgrades for the property included redoing 375 rooms and suites, and restoring landscaping, cabanas and hammocks.

What else is new? There’s a swim-up bar called Mio, a subzero tequila and mezcal bar called Azul and a beach bar called Onda. The restaurants El Meson and Madero also have reopened.

Next month, the hotel plans to roll out La Vista Club, described as a “hotel within a hotel.” It will feature 65 rooms and suites with amenities like marble bathrooms and custom-made furniture.

In September, as part of the second phase, there are plans to open a new spa with 15 treatment rooms and a Zen Garden and Movement Studio that will offer workout classes. The resort also will open Cabo Kids Camp with activities for children 4 to 12 years old.

During and after the storm, resort guests praised the staff for taking care of them.

Jennifer Anne Lowry wrote on a blog last September: “Once again, thank you to the Management and Staff of the Hilton Los Cabos for sacrificing so much, so that we could be safe and comfortable in an otherwise nightmarish situation. We are forever indebted to Max and his team for everything they have done.”
