Art lovers and aficionados of all things nautical will find much to appreciate in this August cruise along the coast of Maine. Artists Winslow Homer, Thomas Cole and the Wyeths all were inspired by its beauty, which Smithsonian Journeys showcases in a seven-night cruise to some of the state’s most picturesque ports, including Bar Harbor, Castine, Camden, Boothbay Harbor and Bath. Museum visits include tours of the Portland Museum of Art and its works by Homer and Frederic Church, the Penobscot Marine Museum, the Farnsworth Art Museum and its Wyeth Center and the Maine Maritime Museum. Also included is a bus tour of Acadia National Park. The cruise, aboard the 100-passenger Independence, begins and ends in Portland, Maine. The first-night stay is at the Holiday Inn Portland — By the Bay.
