United Airlines is waiving change fees this weekend for thousands of customers across the nation who were stranded by a computer glitch that started Friday night. On its website, the airline said Saturday that it was “in the process of resuming normal operations.”

Passengers on affected flights are being allowed to cancel or rebook without penalty. But they have a limited time to act. They must rebook travel within seven days, according to the airline’s detailed rules.

Disruptions could last several days, experts said, because many flights are already full of passengers.

“There’s literally nowhere to put them,” airline analyst Robert Mann said, according to Associated Press. “There are already very few empty seats on the flights that operate.”

United was advising customers with flights scheduled for Saturday to check in online and arrive early at the airport.

The airline also advised travelers who flew Friday night and arrived without their bags to call Baggage Services at (800) 221-6903, but it warned that, due to the large number of calls, you could be waiting a while.

Watch United’s website for updates; look under “News and Deals.” Another good place to check is the airline’s Twitter account.
