In Oklahoma City, follow the food

Share

Thank you, Andrew Bender, for a wonderful article highlighting the vibrant community of Oklahoma City [“A Hip Second Life as Restaurants,” Feb. 23]. I’m from there and really enjoyed the mention of places I’ve been and restaurants I’ve tried. I’m excited to have new places to visit when I head back later in the year.

OKC is a wonderful city with wonderful people. I grow tired of the attitude I routinely run into of a place with no redeeming value. Yes, I live in L.A. now, but I miss my old city. To be honest, L.A. has nothing on it.

Nice piece on the OKC eateries. Whenever Bender returns, because he’s already been to other Good Egg Dining spots, he has to eat at Republic. And most of the Hal Smith Restaurant Group spots (www.ehsrg.com) are impressive too, including Kd’s.

Next time, Bender should check out Guernsey Park and Kitchen 324 — two of my all-time favorites. I’m a foodie with an architecture degree. Great food, great design.

Dreaming of more armchair travels

I must reply to Ellen Brannigan’s letter regarding local attractions [Feb. 23]: I am an avid Travel section reader, saving it for last each Sunday as my favorite read. I do not want to see yet another article on Las Vegas or local Southern California events. It is much more interesting to read about Hungary or other world locations, even if one is unable to travel there except perhaps in dreams. It opens eyes and expands horizons for a better understanding of cultures and history. You may need to get out the atlas for an enlightening geography lesson. Please do not believe that Brannigan represents the majority of readers or travelers.

More shopping and eating in Summerland

Regarding Summerland, Calif. [“A Beach Classic,” by Ryan Ritchie, Feb. 23]: Too bad he missed Just Folk and Sacred Space. Also the Nugget and Summerland Beach Cafe.
