Mendocino County pier: Point Arena Pier

Share

Point Arena PierOverview: A sturdy concrete pier for commercial and recreational fishing. Point Arena has had a pier of one sort or another since 1866; this 330-foot span has been in place since the late 1980s. You come here for the natural environment rather than the pier.

Notable views: The rocky cliffs that ring the small bay are home to various seabirds, including the laysan albatross, which ranges across the north Pacific. The cliffs help, at times, to protect the spot from the fierce winds that blow in the area. It’s often a wild, inclement place.

Parking: Free at the foot of the pier. Parking in front of the coffee shop, restaurant and gift shop is reserved for those using the services.

Directions: From Highway 1, turn onto Port Road and follow it to the bay.
