‘Tools as Art: The Hechinger Collection’

A new exhibition draws from the tool-themed art of hardware store magnate John Hechinger, with paintings, sculptures, drawings and photos, including works by Claes Oldenburg, William Eggleston, Walker Evans and others.

Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee

Amphibians star at this Angels Camp fair. The city inaugurated the frog jump, in the tradition of Mark Twain’s “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,” on Main Street in 1928. Now more than 2,000 people enter the contest.

Jazz on the Lake

The Saturday concert series in Henderson, a resort area about 17 miles east of Vegas, is free and relaxed. (Dogs are welcome; coolers aren’t.)

When, where: 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturdays from Saturday to Sept. 1 along Lake Las Vegas at the MonteLago Village Resort, 30 Strada di Villaggio in Henderson.
