Walter Gabrielson, an artist, teacher and writer who interpreted human behavior in lusciously colored paintings and poked fun at the art world with vivid wit, died Nov. 12.

In his 73 years, Gabrielson acquired a devoted following of students, artists and friends who admired his determination to follow his own muse and circulated bits of Walter Wisdom, such as ‘Lots of students go into art and strike it poor.’

But none of his colleagues knew him better than artist and critic Peter Plagens, who has posted a tribute that offers sharp insight into the life, loves and art of his friend.
