Nothing like a little ambition on a Monday morning.

Rep. John A. Boehner, the Republican House leader from Ohio, is so bullish about his party’s prospects for the midterm congressional elections that he says he stands ready to take the gavel from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.

His ‘goal,’’ Boehner said today during an appearance on FOX News Channel’s ‘Fox & Friends,’ is to become speaker of the House in January.

‘That’s my goal.’’ Boehner said.

‘I handed Nancy Pelosi the gavel the last two Congresses,’’ Boehner said today. ‘I think it’s time for her to hand it to me.’

On the question of how this might come to pass, Boehner said: ‘There is not a seat in America, held by a Democrat, that can’t be won.’
