The beginning of the week had been challenging for Lakers point guard Jordan Farmar. A meeting with Lakers Coach Phil Jackson and his speaking out about Farmar’s role had made things difficult for him.

The end of the week brought worse news for Farmar, when results of an MRI exam in Orlando on Saturday revealed a tear of the lateral meniscus in his left knee. The Lakers haven’t given a timetable for Farmar’s return.

Farmar had been experiencing pain for the last few weeks but was feeling better.

But after a steal and a subsequent layup in the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game against the Miami Heat, Farmar felt pain in his knee that didn’t let up.

Farmar was with the Lakers for their game against the Orlando Magic on Saturday night, but he will fly back to Los Angeles on Sunday to get an exam Monday with the Lakers’ doctors.

Farmar had played a solid game against the Heat before he was injured, scoring 12 points on five-for-eight shooting.

‘I felt that I played fairly well last night and was getting mentally back on track and ready to roll,’ Farmar said. ‘This is just part of the game; it’s part of life. Setbacks are common and there are always going to be adversities. It’s just how you deal with it. I’ll be fine.’

Farmar is averaging 7.9 points and 2.4 assists in 19.6 minutes a game. But he had been asked by Jackson to throttle back the fast break, something that Farmar felt hampered his game.

Farmar and Jackson met Monday to hash things out.

It didn’t take long for Farmar to get back in line, his play against the Heat an indication of that.
