Buoyed by his performance in passing drills the day before, USC quarterback Aaron Corp said today that he was scheduled to run on an antigravity treadmill this afternoon, the next step in his attempt to return from a leg injury and start the Trojans’ Sept. 5 opener against San Jose State.

Corp, a third-year sophomore, suffered a broken left fibula on Aug. 10. He is expected to return to full practice next week to challenge freshman Matt Barkley for the starting job.

‘I think I’ll be mobile enough,’ said Corp, who began training camp No. 1 on the depth chart. ‘I won’t be running away from guys, but as long as I can slide in the pocket and maybe get out and throw on the run, I should be fine. That’s my goal. That’s why I’m going to test it out.’

An antigravity treadmill allows trainers to increase or decrease air pressure to counter the weight of the athlete running.

‘We’ll see how my knee reacts and then gradually increase over the weekend,’ Corp said. ‘Hopefully it doesn’t swell up.’

On Thursday, Corp participated in seven-on-seven passing drills for the first time since the third day of training camp.

‘My arm is fresh,’ he said. ‘There were a couple things I tried [mechanically] to throw the ball a little better. I was happy with the way I was throwing and, hopefully, it will carry over.’
