Oklahoma Coach Bob Stoops said on Monday’s Big 12 weekly conference call that doctors believe Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Sam Bradford suffered a ‘Grade 2 or 3’ AC joint sprain to his throwing shoulder in Saturday’s 14-13 loss to Brigham Young.

‘It’s one of those,’ Stoops said.

How long Bradford will be out, Stoops said, will depend on ‘how he heals and how he feels.’

According to the website SportsInjuryclinic.net, AC sprains are graded 1 through 6. A Grade 2 involves rupture of the acromioclavicular ligament while Grade 3 involves rupture of two ligaments, resulting in ‘superior displacement.’ Surgery is usually required for grades 4 through 6.

Stoops said there is also no timetable for the return of tight end Jermaine Gresham, who missed the BYU game with a knee injury.

Oklahoma, which averaged 51 point per game in 2008, has already had to replace four starting offensive linemen and two receivers from last year’s team.

Oklahoma hosts Idaho State this week. The Sooners plays Texas in Dallas on Oct. 17.

Bradford’s backup is freshman Landry Jones.
