Here’s some news and notes from up north heading into Week 3 of the HS football season:

The other Scott: Maybe he’s not quite where Darrell is at, but Palmdale RB Ronald Scott played a key role in the Falcons’ first win. He rushed for 218 yards and four first-half TDs as Palmdale dissolved any bad memories of its season-opening loss to Valencia with a 49-0 victory over Kennedy.

20 years the making: Behind Russell Perkins’ three first-half TDs and QB Gavin Kelly’s 169 yards passing, Santa Maria St. Joseph defeated Arroyo Grande, 35-6 on Friday. It marked the Knights’ first victory over the Eagles since 1987.

Hold on: Fillmore had a little help in its 29-24 victory over visiting Mojave on Friday. The Flashes (cool nickname) recovered six Mustang fumbles to give it 10 fumble recoveries on the season as they improved to 2-1.

Scoreboard Pride: Next time you’re driving down the 101, try to catch a glimpse of Camarillo’s new football scoreboard without causing a pileup. According to the Ventura County Star, the $100,000 scoreboard made its debut Friday in the Scorpions’ 34-16 victory over Agoura and made an immediate impact with fans. It can display both photos and graphics and was financed partially through school fund raisers. But instead of twisting your neck trying to see it from the highway, stop by Camarillo’s next home game Thursday against a hungry Thousand Oaks team still reeling from close losses to Loyola and Atascadero.

Good showing: After an off night against West Ranch in Week 1, Lancaster RB Taveon Burke erupted for 124 yards and two TDs in the Eagles’ 42-21 victory over Chatsworth. If Lancaster is going to make it to the postseason again, Burke’s got to have more games like this –- only against tougher opponents.

Howling Coyotes: If Calabasas doesn’t want to go down in the history books as the team with the longest losing streak in state history, it needs to beat a struggling Channel Islands team on Thursday. Following their 34-3 loss to Hueneme, the Coyotes are three losses away from breaking Moorpark’s state record (46). Channel Islands, which has been outscored, 78-0, this season, presents Calabasas the best opportunity to avoid that dreadful distinction because we know the Coyotes won’t beat Westlake or Thousand Oaks. Even worse, all these games are on the road.
