The second-round playoff game is so different from the first, Venice Coach Angelo Gasca said, because you are pretty much guaranteed playing a league champion or a team with a long, winning tradition.

Venice (10-1), the third seed, will get the latter challenge when it hosts Dorsey (8-3), the sixth seed, in quarterfinal play of the City Championship playoffs on Wednesday.

The Dons have won four CIty titles under Coach Paul Knox since 1989 and have always reached the quarterfinal round under his watch.

‘Every coach in the City has respect for Coach Knox,’ Gasca said. ‘There’s no question Dorsey has a great tradition under him and he’s always had good teams.

‘We’ve been in the same bracket with them before and have never matched up. I’m looking forward to playing them. It’s a chance to play a meaningful game this time of year against a great team.’
