No one has been hotter, or on more of a roll lately, than Lorne Jackson. In fact, I’d be surprised if the senior point guard from Simi Valley isn’t named the most valuable player of the Winter Slam Jam tournament even if the Pioneers lose to Renaissance Academy in tonight’s 8 p.m. championship game at Chatsworth High.

Look at his stats: Jackson scored 28 points for Simi Valley and added 10 rebounds, eight assists and four steals in an 88-77 victory over Sylmar in the semifinals. In a quarterfinal, all he did was finish with 24 points, including an 8-for-10 effort from the line, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals in a 97-66 victory over Santee. Who’s going to argue with those numbers?

Jackson, aka Lo-Jack, is averaging 22.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 4.5 steals per game through seven games. He’s on the radar of several NCAA Division I programs too, having been contacted by scouts from several Ivy League schools recently, as well as recruiters from LMU and Santa Barbara. Adding an MVP trophy to his early season resume would be fitting, a great way to cap off a great week.
