Louis ‘just get out of the way’ Bland of Modesto Central Catholic is out-shining Darrell Scott of St. Bonaventure so far in the state Division III bowl championship game at Home Depot Center.
Bland just showed his straight-ahead running ability on a 37-yard carry, bowling over a St. Bonny linebacker and then sprinting down the sideline before he was knocked down by a teammate while trying to cut back.
Alex Young then cashed in with a 12-yard touchdown reception, giving the Raiders a 7-0 lead.
Bland had a 19-yard run on the previous drive, but teammate Max Nelson lost a fumble a couple plays later. Just get out of Bland’s way, I say.
St. Bonny did practically nothing on its first two drives, but Austin Stokman provided the first spark with a 48-yard catch-and-run to the Central Catholic 24, and Isiah caught a swing pass from Casey Serna and dove into the end zone at the end of a 21-yard run to tie the score at 7-7 with 3:18 left in the first quarter.
