Central Catholic gets a gift TD to tie score

Louis Bland of just got rocked by St. Bonaventure’s Troy Hill at the end zone. The ball popped loose. Bland’s shoulder (not any other part of his body) reached the end zone. Yet, inexplicably, the linesman signaled touchdown. Central Catholic has tied the score, 14-14, at the Division III bowl championship game at the Home Depot Center.

Earlier, Darrell Scott sprinted 48 yards for the Seraphs’ second touchdown for a short-lived 14-7 lead.

Good thing for Long Beach Poly that this particular referee wasn’t officiating the Jackrabbits’ 2-0 victory over Orange Lutheran in the Pac-5 finals. Otherwise, Lutheran would be the two-time defending champion.

Somewhere, Poly players are smiling. And thanking their lucky stars.
